Development and refinement of the women-centred intervention

The aim of Workpackage 2 is to determine, describe and explain factors of importance for improving the rate of VBAC and reducing fear of childbirth in different maternity care settings in Europe, and to integrate these factors in the development of a feasible, women-centred intervention, tailored to the needs ofdifferent maternity care settings. 

Objectives

1. To conduct a systematic review of the literature (or review of reviews) on women-centred antenatal interventions for increasing VBAC rates and reducing fear of childbirth in women.

2. To conduct a systematic review of the literature (or review of reviews) on clinician-centred interventions for increasing VBAC rates and reducing fear of childbirth in women & apprehension in clinicians.

3. To develop and conduct focus-group interviews (FGIs) with women, their partners and clinicians in maternity care settings with high VBAC rates (Sweden, Finland and the Netherlands), to ascertain
cross-cultural views on VBAC and to determine what works/does not work in increasing VBAC.

4. To develop and conduct FGIs with women, their partners and clinicians in maternity care settings with low VBAC rates (Germany, Ireland and Italy, to ascertain cross-cultural views on/barriers to VBAC, views on fear in childbirth and on clinical decision-making from their respective roles.

5. To develop and refine, based on the information afforded by the 4 above objectives, the face-to-face women-centred intervention for testing in the clinical trials and assist the translation of this intervention development into appropiate ICT tools.
