Hannover Medical School is one of the leading medical universities in Germany with excellent results in health care, research, education and training.

 

 

The university’s midwifery research and education unit offers expertise in the field of clinical research and advanced clinical practice. The midwifery unit forms part of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine with its close proximity to all local midwifery and obstetrical servi- ces. In 2009, the only MSc Midwifery Programme in Germany was launched as part of the European Master of Science in Midwifery Programme.

You will be required to supervise the German part of the OptiBIRTH study. This multicentre cluster randomised clinical trial addresses the widespread concern over rising Caesarean section rates through- out Europe, particularly routine CS following a previous CS, despite calls for increased vaginal births after Caesarean (VBAC).

The study will use a cluster randomised trial in Ireland, Germany and Italy, with 15 clusters of 94 women in each, to increase VBAC rates through increased women-centred care and women’s involvement in their care. OptiBIRTH has been awarded funding by the European Com- mission under FP7.

The project team includes 11 partners from 8 countries representing service users, midwifery, obstetrics, epidemiology, sociology, anthropology, bioethics, health economics and indust- ry. The project will run over 4 years commencing September 2012.


You are welcome to pursue your own research within an exciting clinical and academic midwifery environment. We are looking forward to welcoming an experienced maternity care researcher

• with a PhD or Master degree and a clinical background in women’s health,
• with experience in supervising multicentre research projects,
• who would like to contribute to the Master programme in midwifery.


The position will be available from September 2013 onwards up to September 2016. PhD students are welcome to apply. A 50% appointment would be possible as well. The contract of employment will be with Hannover Medical School according to the entry qualification (TV-L). It is the university’s aim to extend the contract period.
